This systematic review evaluates the evidence for strategies to retain adults in medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder. The authors reviewed published studies and summarized evidence for 6 retention strategies: care settings with service and logistical support; contingency management; health information technology applications; extended release medications; psycho-social support; and financial support. The report also reviews the evidence and provides suggestions for improvements to research design.
