Addiction 101

Addiction Policy Forum presents this free, on-line course titled Addiction 101. The course includes instruction on addiction and the brain, the risk and protection factors associated with an individual’s likelihood of developing a substance use disorder, a discussion of the importance of language and the need to reduce stigma around addiction, and a brief overview of treatment options and the need to match the intensity of treatment with an individual’s severity of substance use. The course includes brief quizzes to test users understanding of the material, and concludes with a list of resources and additional reading.

This resource was produced by an individual/organization receiving funding from sources that have a conflict of interest such as a pharmaceutical company, political action committee, or other industry-related sources. Multiple studies indicate that research performed by individuals with relationships to industry and research funded by industry sources are more likely to favor the sponsor’s products.
