Minnesota Opioid Prescribing Guidelines – 2018 First Edition

The Minnesota Department of Human Services convened a group of stakeholders to address opioid prescribing in the state through the Opioid Prescribing Improvement Project. The Opioid Prescribing Workgroup produced these 2018 guidelines on opioid prescribing for use by providers in the state with a particular emphasis on prescribing to address acute pain and recovery from surgeries and injuries, avoiding use of opioids for chronic pain, and safely managing care for patients already taking opioids for chronic pain. The workgroup also produced the Flip the Script materials that give providers guidance on having difficult conversations with patients around pain management and opioids.
