Source: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

This 2018 guideline from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration provides clinical recommendations for treating pregnant and parenting women with opioid use disorder and assessing infants and treating those identified as having neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (also known as neonatal abstinence syndrome). Guidelines were compiled by reviewing the research literature and consulting experts practicing in the field. Recommendations are presented as “fact sheets” that present a clinical scenario, provide recommended actions and an explanation of the evidence base for the recommendations, and offer resources for additional information.
