AMA Opioid Task Force Helping Guide: Physicians’ Progress to End the Nation’s Opioid Epidemic

In 2014, the American Medical Association’s Opioid Task Force identified 6 actions physicians could take to help end the nation’s opioid epidemic. This 2018 progress report describes the 6 recommendations for physician action: register and use the prescription drug monitoring program [PDMP], insure updated clinical education, support and advocate for pain and substance use disorder treatment, address stigma, expand access to naloxone, and encourage safe storage and disposal. The report also documents progress made and next steps for physicians and their allies.
